A new way to make a heart design - A Valentine Tutorial

I have a problem. I can't cut a nice looking heart out to.save.my.life. This only really becomes a problem during craft time...especially around Valentine's Day.

Lil Bit and I decided to make some Valentine's decorations together while the Littlests were taking a nap. She wanted to make....HEARTS! Ack!

I gathered all our supplies that we had on hand. Felt, old lace trim from some cornices and more trim. Colors: red, pink and white (of course!)

Next, I looked all around my kitchen for something that could give me the shape that always seems out of my reach. Finally, I spotted one of my shoes! Size 8 ladies', with a smooth edge and an instep that doesn't cut in too much. Let's see how it works:

Next, I traced the toe portion of the shoe, from instep arch to the middle of the shoe, on the fold.

Look at that shape! Now, it's time to cut them out...
Then, I cut them out (we made 3). Good heart shapes!

I ran the hearts through the embroidery machine to put a catchy little phrase on each of them. Then glued or sewed lace, felt hearts (slightly odd shaped hearts), and trim on them!

I think we need to make more, but nap time and a three year old's attention span is not an extremely lengthy amount of time. Here they are on the bannister:

Wouldn't they be cute in lots of colors, like the candy?
